Tutorial for foreign students and visitors

The purpose of this tutorial is to help you on your arrival at Brazil, presenting some relevant information for those who come to the city of São Paulo and to IPEN.

Before coming

In case you are a student, it is important to remember that to study in Brazil for a period of more than 90 days, you will need a student visa; therefore, you should go to the Brazilian Consulate in your country to be informed of the procedures.

To the student or visitor, we suggest that you consult the doctor before your arrival at Brazil and bring any medications that might be used; we, also, recommend that you purchase a health insurance covering medical and hospital care, valid throughout Brazil, for the duration of your stay in Brazil.

Where to stay

We recommend that students arrive in São Paulo a few days in advance, so that there is enough time to find accommodation, regularize documents and be adapted to this new period.

To find accommodation, you may check Trivago website and search for options around 10 km from IPEN address.

As additional information, there are two hotels in the vicinity of IPEN: Golden Tower Hotel and Go inn Jaguaré

How to arrive

To come to São Paulo, you should disembark at the International Airport of São Paulo - Guarulhos, which is 30 km away from the city of São Paulo. With regard to transportation, there are two ways you can go downtown: by taxi or by bus.

To come by taxi, we suggest you buy the ticket and make the advance payment (including by credit card) in the boxes of the concessionaires located inside the airport arrival / disembark area. We recommend you do not share the use of the taxi with anyone, when arriving in the city of São Paulo.

In case you prefer to come by bus, you may use public transport, the EMTU (Metropolitan Urban Transport Company) offers the most affordable transportation service, called Airport Bus Service (Serviço de Onibus do Aeroporto). Schedules and destinations may be consulted on the company's website and the point of sale (POS) is the Guarulhos International Airport (tel 0800-770799).

IPEN is located in Cidade Universitária, in the western part of the city of São Paulo, more precisely in Butantã neighborhood. IPEN has two entrances: the main one, located at Travessa R, no. 400 and Portaria Norte, on Av. Professor Lineu Prestes, no. 2242. For a more precise view, see our Location Map.

To assist you in the access by public transport, you may consult the following services: MOOVIT and/or TRAFI
