Program: Nuclear Technology
(Versão Português / Versión Española)

The Graduate Program in Nuclear Technology from IPEN - Nuclear and Energy Research Institute - aims at the formation of researchers at the master and doctoral degree in the fields of Nuclear Technology and related areas, contributing to the scientific improvement of students from several undergraduate courses.

It is worth mentioning that this course is, for the vast majority of students, the first contact with the nuclear area, given that, in general, there are no related topics in the undergraduate courses.

The Program is associated to the Graduate Program of the University of São Paulo, through Ordinance USP in 905 of 3/16/1976 and is recommended by the Ministry of Education and Culture – MEC, through the Federal Government Coordination for Higher Education Evaluation - CAPES, having obtained over the last years the concept "6" in the master and doctorate courses. On the average, there are 500 students enrolled in master and doctoral programs. More than 170 scholarships are offered by institutions and funding agencies like FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES, CNEN and IPEN. The number of advisors and professors in the Program is around 120 offering about 70 courses every year.

Areas of Concentration

There are three concentration areas in the Nuclear Technology Program:

  • Nuclear Technology - Applications (TNA)
  • Nuclear Technology - Materials (TNM)
  • Nuclear Technology - Reactors (TNR)
Between 1976 and 2016 the program reached the milestone of over 2,500 dissertations and theses. The program also offers elective disciplines for undergraduate students at USP and scholarships from the Education Improvement Program (PAE) for graduate students seeking their participation in educational activities.
Graduate Committee

The graduate Committee is composed by one full member of each concentration area elected by the program supervisors; three full members appointed by IPEN’s Technical and Administrative Board; a student representative elected by their peers.

Each full member shall have an alternate, following the same rules of that member.
